About
Rosa Harradine is a broom and brush maker living in Carmarthen in Wales. Rosa moved a year ago from Liverpool and has beautifully restored her new workshop with its burnt orange painted walls and blue painted windows at the back of her house, originally a shed for making coffins. Rosa studied music in London, playing the saxophone, clarinet and piano and finds classical music a wonderful backdrop to making. She began her career making wooden spoons and turning bowls and then took up basketry which led to brushes and she was selected as a TOAST New Maker for 2022. Working with natural, sustainable materials is really important to her and she is inspired to make pieces that are both beautiful and useful. Every brush or broom is made by Rosa entirely by hand, using Corn and Tampico from Mexico and Arenga from Indonesia for the brush, and hazel for the handles and hemp cord to bind them together which is her favourite part of the process. Rosa is steeped in calm and earnest devotion to her work and applies her careful hand and eye to every detail. ‘The Wind in the Willows’ opens with Mole working away with his brush spring cleaning and Curator&Maker are so thrilled that Rosa has brought an echo of this within our 2024 Spring collection.
