About

Based at Oxo Tower Wharf, Carréducker is testament to craftsmanship, heritage skills, and innovation in the world of bespoke shoemaking, known traditionally as cordwaining. Now in their 20th year, Deborah and James continue to use the specialist tools and techniques of the trade to craft footwear fit for the modern day.

Each pair of bespoke shoes is created to a client’s specifications and made on their lasts, (wooden forms) with a number of fittings along the journey to ensure a comfortable fit. Through collaborative conversations between client and cordwainer, details ranging from style, design, leather, colour, fit and finish are honed, resulting in footwear truly tailored to the individual. Central to Carréducker’s ethos is a dedication to preserving the heritage craft of cordwaining. With decades of collective experience, James and Deborah impart their wealth of knowledge through comprehensive shoemaking courses and workshops, nurturing both novices and aspiring artisans.

Their commitment has not only opened the door to a once-hidden world but also provided a platform for newcomers to flourish. Beyond their dedication to craftsmanship, Carréducker champions sustainable and ethical production practices. Mindful sourcing of materials with a focus on responsibly obtained leather from Devon and Tuscany, a by-product of the meat and dairy industry, underscores their commitment to environmental stewardship.

This ethos extends to their innovative crowdfunding initiatives, which promote British heritage footwear while collaborating with small, specialist manufacturers to produce made-to-order shoes and boots; thus eliminating unnecessary waste. Their latest endeavour introduced traditional clogs as a stylish, sustainable, foot-healthy alternative to sneakers, furthering their mission of blending tradition with contemporary relevance!

By emphasising quality and longevity, Carréducker not only advocates for a more sustainable approach to footwear but also stands as a beacon of craftsmanship and authenticity.
