Join the Fife Arms as they host a panel discussion exploring the themes of nature and place in Scottish craft.

Moderated by Hugo Macdonald of Bard, a shop that celebrates the best of Scottish craft, the event brings together three talented makers who each have a deep connection with the landscape. Textile designer Araminta Campbell created the Fife Arms tartan and tweed, using the colours of the surrounding scenery to create designs that reflect the history of these uniquely Scottish patterns and have a profound sense of place. Horn carver Gareth Guy of McLean of Braemar uses antlers collected from Highland estates to create his beautiful, collectable pieces. Deer cast their antlers every spring — growing new ones by late summer — making horn a fundamentally sustainable material. Accessories designer Iseabal Hendry creates accessories from woven leatherwork that are the result of a coming together of her environmental values, a knowledge of traditional techniques and materials and the Highland landscape that surrounds her.

The focus of their conversation is the Scottish landscape through the changing seasons — how it inspires and informs their craft — as well as the challenges and pleasure to be had in harnessing the bounty of nature without damaging or diminishing it. At its heart, the discussion is a celebration of Scotland and the creativity and artistry that it inspires.

The discussion lasts for one hour, followed by an audience Q&A and individual demonstrations and conversations with the makers.

The event is being held in The Scottish Room, Mount St. Restaurant. This space itself was inspired by the history of the Highlands and Mount St.’s sister property, the Fife Arms, bringing Scotland to the heart of Mayfair — showcasing Jacobite history as well as traditional Scottish crafts, including site-specific commissions from both Araminta and Gareth.

The Fife Arms shop collaborates with and commissions the best and brightest artisans to create a bespoke collection that showcases extraordinary design and craftsmanship alongside a deeply held love of Scotland.
