Cox & Power are steeped in the tradition and heritage of goldsmithing and a desire to share its mysteries, bringing a fresh approach to an ancient craft. Their work has a contemporary individuality, combining traditional silversmithing techniques in contemporary fine jewellery to reveal and celebrate the making process.
2024 sees 30 years since opening their first boutique atelier in Central London, during which time Cox & Power has become a touchstone for modern jewellery design with a reputation for creating distinctive yet understated pieces. Their current home, in Marylebone’s Chiltern Street, is a uniquely creative space – an invitation to experience the magical proximity of workshop and gallery, and step inside the story of the jewellery, from design and inspiration to sourcing and creation.
With an eye for the unusual and taking inspiration from the wonderful materials at their fingertips, Cox & Power jewellery is shaped by the balance of physical contrast: the beauty and power of this island’s coastal and natural environment against the dynamic energy of London life. Their work hints at visual influences – 20th century modern elements, ancient constructed forms, medieval colour – but the intimate experience of wearing their jewellery and the personal tactile quality of each piece is as much the essence of their work as their opulent yet minimal style.
Conscious of the emotional value of jewellery, they show a reverence to their materials – whether heirloom pieces brought to them for reimagining or newly discovered. This deep connection has led them to seek beauty in provenance as much as in the inherent qualities of their gold and gemstones.
They are committed to bringing fair trade principles into the sourcing of gemstones and gold, making the first Fairtrade and Fairmined platinum jewellery and co-founding the Fair Luxury collective, working to promote ethical and sustainable provenance in the jewellery industry. Their ethical journey was born of a vision to create work that makes a positive contribution; celebrating the people and places that, together, form the story of each piece of jewellery – from the source to the wearer.
