About
George Younge grew up in Norfolk and now lives in Yorkshire. He is a Lecturer in Medieval Literature at York University by day, but devotes his spare time to perfecting his ideal of ‘thinking through making’, initially honing his skills in the renovation of his old house. He has used mediaeval techniques and the visionaries of the Arts and Crafts movement as his inspiration, as well as taking more formal furniture-making courses. His workshop is hidden down a bumpy track deep in a wood near York, opening onto a sea of yellow flowers, and surrounded by his beloved green Wadkin woodworking machinery, shrouded by the dust and grime created in the delivery of his previous creations. He has made for Curator&Maker collapsible wooden and canvas stools that are bespoke for our show and which conjure up echoes of the riverbank and picnics of ‘The Wind in the Willows’.
