Having grown up in Seoul, the capital of South Korea, Hajeong Lee Rogers embarked on her academic journey in 1995 at Sungshin Women’s University, initially pursuing studies in craft in its broadest context. However, she swiftly discovered her true passion within the ceramics department, culminating in her graduation with a BA in 2001, followed by the attainment of her MA in 2003. Hajeong Lee Rogers transitioned into a teaching role as a teaching assistant at the same university, eventually ascending to the position of lecturer. During this period, her focus primarily revolved around ceramic sculpture, some of which attained significant scale, garnering her numerous accolades in various competitions. Notably, she was honoured with the National Award for Craft Art in 2005.
In 2011, Hajeong Lee Rogers relocated to the United Kingdom to join her husband, establishing her own studio within her husband’s workshop in rural Wales—a space where she continues to create to this day. Throughout this transitional phase, Hajeong Lee Rogers found herself increasingly drawn to the enduring allure of functional ceramics.
Her current artistic endeavours remain anchored in this pursuit, employing an array of traditional Korean Buncheong techniques characterised by intricate inlays, delicate white slips, and deft iron brushwork. In recognition of her contributions to the field, Hajeong Lee Rogers was honoured with election as a Fellow of the Craft Potters Association (UK) in 2021. Her work is proudly held in numerous public collections, testament to her enduring impact and artistic resonance.
