About
Jo is a decorative artist who gilds antique lace and crochet. She trained in wood graining, marbling, gilding and specialist paint finishes and was awarded the City & Guilds Silver Medal for Excellence in 2000. She up-skilled at Central St Martin’s College of Art & Design to develop her own practice, and now specialises in the delicate technique of hand gilding antique and vintage lace, crochet and tatting to create a range of contemporary framed pieces, jewellery, fashion and interior accessories, and Christmas decorations.
Jo relishes collaborating with other designers who incorporate her gilded lace into unique fashion clothing and accessories, jewellery and millinery.
“Using antique and vintage lace to refashion into precious pieces really inspires me. Intuitive exploration with materials has resulted in contemporary surface treatments, which give my pieces a new fragility with jewel-like qualities”.
Her commission work includes gilding and framing clients’ treasured lace and producing framed and decorated pieces for show homes, private interiors and wedding anniversaries.
