About
Nancy Fuller is a potter with a background in Fine Art Printmaking and the History of Art and Archaeology of Asia. Her search for self and belonging took her back to Taiwan, her country of birth, to learn Mandarin, and to a master potter in Shigaraki, Japan, to learn the ancient art of wood-firing. The presence of mind and body required for this practice brought her closer to nature, and in turn, herself. Over time, the results produced from her kiln in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, have increasingly felt like a collaboration with the natural world and a celebration of what it is to be human. Tangible within each piece, formed of earth and born from fire, is the combined expression of a specific landscape, a time of year and herself, the maker. The discoveries made from working with the unknown is what continues to motivate her, with the ever-shifting factors contributing to an alchemical process, creating pots which reveal themselves over time, thus becoming holding spaces for contemplation.
Born in Taiwan, she lives and works in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Her work has been exhibited at: Make Hauser & Wirth, Somerset (2020/2023), Flow Gallery, London (2022), Maud & Mabel, London (2021), Gallery TEN, Edinburgh (2014/2020), Archie Bray Foundation for Ceramic Arts, Montana, USA (2018).
