About

Vicky Pylorides (Monaco, 1979) creates abstract works in which textile, among different mediums, forms the most characteristic element. In her works she plays with the dualities found in textures and in colours and experiments with the tension between chaos (yin) and order (yang).

Vicky, who has a background in psychology and worked as a therapist for several years, is very inspired by analytical psychology, especially the work of Carl Jung. She finds that abstract expressionism in these theoretical frames strongly relates to the unconscious and to self-discovery. When open to it, abstractionism and symbolism can provide personal insight for both the artist and the observer in the same way as dreams can.

Growing up in the south of France and Greece Vicky also draws much of her inspiration from the typical Mediterranean aesthetics. She considers interior decoration and art to be very much intertwined and believes that when they are taken seriously and considered as a
whole, an immense healing power becomes available.

Vicky is currently based in Rotterdam.

Vicky Pylorides will be part of HANDS exhibition curated by Wondering People at 8 Holland Street.
