About
Heather Gibson is a London-based ceramicist. She is currently undertaking an MA at the Royal College of Art and is a recipient of the Marit Rausing Scholarship in Ceramics and Glass (2024). Her work has been exhibited nationally from Thrown Gallery to The Leach Pottery. With an intimate focus on traditional hand building techniques and experimental glazing, her functional forms are juxtaposed by bold, sculptural and dynamic surfaces. Drawing inspiration from ancient pottery traditions, abstract expressionism and the urban environment, Heather’s approach to making is both spontaneous and constructed. Exploring clay as a canvas for trace, memory and mark-making, she uses a careful alchemy of slips, oxides and glazes to create her unique surfaces. Through this method she invites risk into her work, encouraging the true essence of clay and its ability to give something back – something beyond our control. Heather hopes to capture ephemeral moments of the unseen, reminiscent of the cycle of time and the natural aging process.
